My Surface Book accepted the recovery disk after this and reinstalled Windows 10 without an issue. Under Device information, look at the value next to Surface model. In the Surface app, select Device information. ( Download the Surface app from the Microsoft Store) Select the Start button, enter surface, then select Surface app from the list of results. Made me nervous, but I overwrote them and it appeared to be fine. To find out which Surface device model you have, use the Surface app on your Surface device. This didn't seem to matter.ģ) Upon copying some files it told me that they already existed and I was about to overwrite them, but it clearly looked like those files didn't exist on the existing recovery disk (again, had hidden files/folders shown). To get around this, I opened the folders that were there and cleared their contents, then copied the files over from the folders that matched in the Surface Book recovery files.Ģ) the 'boot' folder that you copy over disappeared on my flash drive after I copied it - I don't know why, but it wasn't hidden or anything (I set it to show hidden files/folders) - it just didn't show up. The only thing I would add is that a few weird things happen when you go to copy over the Surface Book recovery/boot image files to the flash drive:ġ) I was nervous that there was something inherent in the files/folder structure that I would mess up by deleting what was on the existing recovery disk, or that it would only overwrite files that it needed to and some existing files would stay and cause issues. This was exactly what I was looking for and was a great solution.
